
The 14th GTI Transport Board meeting was organized by the GTI Secretariat and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport of the Republic of Korea. During the meeting, the GTI Secretariat provided an update on the progress in the GTI transport sector since the previous transport board meeting. Later, the Board reviewed the latest progress updates from the member states with regard to the realization of the GTI Regional Transport Strategy, as well as their national transport strategies focused on the NEA region and discussed proposals for future cooperation projects and initiatives. GTI Transport Board members reaffirmed their common vision for cooperation in the transport sector and approved the GTI Regional Strategy and Medium-Term Transport Actions Plan 2025-2029 and the Transport Board Work Plan 2025-2026.
The Transport Board meeting was preceded by the 5th ESCAP-GTI Seminar on Transport Issues in NEA, “Accelerating the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: Advancing Green Transformation of the Transport Sector”. The Seminar went in 2 sessions: Pathways towards environmentally sustainable land transport systems and services and Multi-sectoral approaches on advancing green transformation of the transport sector. As the outcome of the Seminar, it was suggested to utilize the strong national policies on sustainable transport systems to reinforce the strategic role of transport sector for climate action, further embed sustainable development considerations in implementing the GTI Medium-Term Transport Action Plan 2025-2029 and develop transport sector-led joint initiatives with other sectors through GTI platform.
Participants from the Ministry of Transport of China, the Ministry of Road and Transport of Mongolia, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea, the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, GTI Transport Expert Group, Global Sustainable Transport Innovation and Knowledge Center (GSTIKC), Korea Railroad Research Institute, Incheon Carbon Neutrality Center, The K Consulting, ESCAP ENEA Office, and the GTI Secretariat attended the 14th GTI Transport Board meeting and 5th ESCAP-GTI Seminar on Transport Issues in NEA.
The chairmanship of the GTI Transport Board was handed over to the Russian Federation.
