Entering it’s 14th year, Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF) welcomes the talented filmmakers from around the world.
The 14th edition of festival was held from Oct 8th to 16th, 2009. Also, Pusan International Film Festival set this year’s deadlines of submitting films for official programs as well as of Asian Cinema Fund (ACF), Asian Film Academy (AFA), and Pusan Promotion Plan (PPP).
The very first international film festival to be held in Korea, PIFF created a film culture with active participation by its audiences, in addition to staging a forum in introducing Korean cinema to the global film society. It was an immense success thanks to ardor interests from both domestic and overseas film professionals along with energetic general audiences.
14th Pusan International Film Festival unveils this year's official poster ‘Song of Night’. The poster is based on the one of the greatest abstract artists in Korea, JEONG Jeum-Sik's painting 'Song of Night' and designed by PIFF Art director, CHOI Soondae.
'Song of Night' is an abstract art painting that scratch and calligraphic techniques were used. It is appraised for its flowing thin lines, strong brush strokes, and a vivid contrast of black and white. The painting matches with the passion and amusement of Pusan International Film Festival. And this year's poster represents the festival's identity and its direction to the future.
Asian Film Market 2009, which will be held from Oct. 11th to 14th as a part of the Pusan International Film Festival, is preparing for registration opening. This year’s Asian Film Market will be located at Seacloud Hotel near Haeundae Beach as last year. This year, PPP will also take place at the Seacloud hotel with the full array of industry events of Asian Film Market. Marking fourth year since its inception in 2006, Asian Film Market restructured its management.
Pusan Promotion Plan (PPP) and Market will be held as one stop business platform for networking and gaining important information ranging from project development to actual production and ultimately up to sales and marketing of films.
"In the worldwide economic downturn, many sales agents and distributers are trying to reduce their costs of attending the market due to tighter travel budgets and rising prices. I have been asked by many attendees in Berlin’s European Film Market and Hong Kong’s Filmart, who would like to go to Pusan in October this year, about costs of attending the market with accreditation and screening charges”. notes NAM Dongchul, a general manager of Asian Film Market. The Pusan International Film Festival expects that it makes the Asian Film Market vitalized by increasing buyers and investors this year.
