Publishing of the Greater Tumen Initiative (GTI) Tourism Guide Calls for Funds

2009-10-15 Views: 742

The publishing of the GTI Tourism Guide, as one part of the GTI project - Capacity Building on GTI Tourism at Regional Level (approved at the 9th meeting of the GTI Consultative Commission in 2007 in Vladivostok, Russia), aims to promote main tourism attractions of the GTI member countries (China, Mongolia, ROK, Russia) and to provide comprehensive guide to international tourists, leading to economic prosperity through tourism development in the Greater Tumen Region.

The Concept Note on the GTI Tourism Guide has been approved at the 2nd meeting of the GTI Tourism Board on 1st September 2009 in Changchun, China, and now the GTI Tumen Secretariat is calling for funds to prepare and publish the Guide.

Background

Stable economic growth during the past decades has laid a strong foundation for tourism development in NE Asia. The potential of the tourism sector for economic development is significant. According to UNWTO, the total international tourist arrivals are expected to reach 1.56 billion by 2020, of which will be 397 million arrivals (25.4%) to NE Asia.

The Greater Tumen Region, covering the three Northeast provinces and Inner Mongolia of China, the Eastern provinces of Mongolia, the Easter port cities of ROK, the Primosky Territory of Russia, and the border area of DPRK, possesses a variety of natural and cultural resources for tourism development, including sites of former civilization, sacred mountains, coastal sceneries and etc.

A previous tourism guide - the Tumen River Area New Horizon in Travel was published in 2002 by UNWTO, with the assistance of UNDP and Tumen Secretariat, to promote tourism in the Greater Tumen Region. However, there was no update since the first publication, though the demands on updated tourism information of the region have been rising dramatically.

Objectives

Therefore, the objectives of publishing the guide are to provide updated tourism information and facilities of the GTI region, to facilitate increasing cross-boarder visitors to NE Asia and Greater Tumen Region in particular, to enhance the advertising effect for developing cross border tourism routes and to raise attractiveness of the region to foreign visitors and investors. The project would be beneficial to GTI central and local governments, travel agencies, tourists, and local communities.

Budget

The estimated budget for this publication is approximately US $ 40,000. The total cost will be composed of consultant fee, design fee, printing and translation fee.

Outputs

Output of this project will be guaranteed by the chosen consultant. The main outputs include:

Step 1: Creating the electronic version of the GTI Tourism Guide

Step 2: Translating the electronic version of GTI Tourism Guide into English, Chinese, Mongolian, Russian and Korean

Step 3: Publishing the printing version of the GTI Tourism Guide

The project is expected to be completed within 8 months.

The GTI Tumen Secretariat hereby invites interested parties to finance this project.
