The 2010 Northeast Asia International Conference for Economic Development was held in Niigata, Japan, from 25 to 26 January 2010.

Organised by Northeast Asia International Conference for Economic Development Executive Committee (Niigata Prefecture, Niigata City and The Economic Research Institute for Northeast Asia), the conference aimed to deepen expert discussions on a number of issues to bring forth sustainable socioeconomic development in Northeast Asia.

Experts and representatives from central and regional governments, research institutions, private groups and international organisations from across Northeast Asia, gathered under one roof to discuss issues affecting the region. In particular, the summaries and investigations on the state of development of measures in each country, and the direction of policies which ought to be taken; to pass on that information and make policy proposals to the countries and regions concerned; and to further multilateral and interregional cooperation.

The program was consisting of four sessions, highlighting agendas on seamless logistics in Northeast Asia; post-Kyoto Protocol period cooperation on energy and the environment; international food-industry clusters and Niigata; and the new trends in Northeast Asia with the global financial crisis.

Dr. Nataliya Yacheistova, Director of the Tumen Secretariat, delivered a keynote speech on the Greater Tumen Initiative (GTI)’s current activities in transportation sector, including the establishment of the Transportation Board and Transportation Experts Group; liaison with other multilateral frameworks, and efforts for strengthening multilateral cooperation for promoting seamless logistics in Northeast Asia.
