Background
The tourism sector has been identified as one of the five priority areas under the Greater Tumen Initiative (GTI), along with transport, trade and investment, energy and environment, at the 8th meeting of Consultative Commission in 2005 (Changchun, China).
To promote cooperation in the tourism sector, the project “Capacity Building on GTI Tourism at Regional Level” was also initiated approved by the member countries at the 9th meeting of Consultative Commission in 2007 (Vladivostok, Russia). This project is composed of three sub-projects: 1) Creation of Tourism Board; 2) Publishing of the GTI Tourism guide; and 3) Development of a Multi-Destination Tourism Product.
A Multi-Destination Tourism (MDT) Project is one of three sub-projects, and the Tumen Secretariat has been entitled to promote this project. As stipulated in the GTI Tourism Charter, adopted at the 1st meeting of GTI Tourism Board (Seoul).
Objective
The objective of this project is to enhance the attractiveness of the GTI region as one tourism destination to increase potential tourists’ inflow and improve mutually beneficial cooperation among the tourism industries and tourism authorities in GTI region.
