The 4th Meeting of the GTI Agriculture Committee in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

The 4th Meeting of the GTI Agriculture Committee, co-organized by the GTI Secretariat and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia, was held on March 28-29, 2019 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, with the participation of members of GTI Agriculture Committee from the GTI Member States and invited representatives from the line ministries and partner institutions.

During the meeting, GTI member states primarily reviewed the progress of Committee’s work in 2018, exchanged the updates from members on agricultural cooperation activities among GTI member states, discussed the 2019 work plan of the Committee, and more importantly, discussed projects and activities proposed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia.

The delegates presented various activities, programs and mechanisms implemented in collaboration with other members in the agriculture sector, in the areas of grassland ecology, crop and livestock breeding, plant varieties protection, agriculture science and technology, agricultural product processing and trade, controls of trans-boundary animal diseases, and others.

Furthermore, the projects proposal on Report on Good Practices of Agricultural Cooperation in the Greater Tumen Region, and concept note on A Regional Consultative Meeting to Promote Trade Facilitation of Agricultural Products in the Greater Tumen Region were carefully reviewed and discussed at the meeting, where members commented valuable inputs to further develop the 2 projects sustainably. 

The Work Plan of GTI Agriculture Committee for 2019 was also reviewed with the emphasis on arranging frequent exchange through video and teleconferences based on demand, formulation and implementation of current and new project and activities, and expansion of networking with other potential partners to strengthen agricultural collaboration.
