GTI Secretariat provided support to the organization of ESCAP’s subregional workshop on Enhancing energy efficiency of the freight transport sector in Asia and the Pacific. The workshop was held on 11 January 2024 in Seoul, Republic of Korea and virtually.
The Workshop was attended by 56 delegates, participants and resource persons from China, Japan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Republic of Korea and the Russian Federation, as well as the ESCAP and GTI secretariats.
The Workshop recognized the importance of green connectivity as the means to achieve the Regional Roadmap for Implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific. The Workshop welcomed the initiatives undertaken at the national level to support the transformation to energy efficient and sustainable supply chain and logistics sector.
In particular, the importance of adopting information and communication technologies (ICT) and intelligent transport systems (ITS) in promoting energy efficiency in the transport sector was highlighted.
The GTI Secretariat shared the undertakings and activities in the GTI’s transport and logistics sectors.
Furthermore, the study findings of the study project “Enhancing energy efficiency of the freight transport sector in Asia and the Pacific”, including the Regional Roadmap towards Sustainable and Energy Efficient Freight Transport, were presented. In line with the project document, the next capacity building workshop(s) will be held in North and Central Asia subregion.
